Darbe-e-Iman, Shrine of Imams-1453

This shrine has two tombs that represent Imamzadeh which are the descendants of Ali. The buildings represent different kinds of architecture. According the building description it was used to keep the remains of the Imamzedah. The purpose of this building was to keep the descendants of Ali in a special place.  The building is built on an ancient cemetery and built over a period of time. I really liked this particular building mostly because of the great beauty and commitment it took to build something so detailed. The domes especially attract me due to the color and design. Every individual piece of this building is different which makes it interesting.

Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque-1602

This building is one of the well-known mosques in Iran. It was built in 1602 and finished in 1618, it replaced an older mosque. It is similar to the Shrine of Imams but different. It was one of the architectural masterpieces in Iran.  The purpose of the mosque was for private mosque of the royal court. This building was smaller size than most because it was meant for private use not public use. Centuries later, they opened the building to the public for admiration. This building has a peacock at the center of the dome which is very striking. It really is amazing all the fine little details that go into creating these buildings.

 Royal palace of 'Ali Qapu

This building dominates the south eastern side of Central Square in Isfahan. They used to call the building Meidan-e-Shah. The name means “The High Gate”. This building has a big entry way that symbolizes power and strength. This building was used for entertainment and it was a place that people went to watch a game of polo. The square was decorated in bright colorful designs. What I thought was interesting about this building is they encased the columns with mirrored class to make it look like the roof was floating. The lower floors were used for guards and the upper floors were apartments. Inside is designed with nature like birds and a few figures. This building also contained a famous music room.

How the architecture of Salt Lake City compares to Isfahan

Salt Lake City and Isfahan have buildings built for the same purposes. Salt Lake City and Isfahan both have court buildings that have a lot of high quality material and work put into them. Salt Lake City and Isfahan both have public buildings used for entertainment and buildings used for worship. I am unaware of any specially buildings built in Salt Lake City to hold the remains of important people. The difference between Salt Lake City buildings is we lack in architecture like Isfahan. We can throw a building up in a couple of weeks. Some of Isfahan buildings take centuries to build and have a lot of unique color and design. Salt Lake City has some beautiful buildings but they cannot compare to the design and thought that goes into Isfahan’s buildings. Their buildings are simply amazing. I think what Salt Lake City’s buildings say about us is that we are just in a hurry to get them up, hurry and get them up and get them up cheap. Some of Salt Lake City buildings have had some time put into them, but they mostly are plain and simple. We are not into the buildings for the art or unique differences but only for the building itself. Isfahan buildings are based from patience, art and dedication, which can say the same about their people, especially to build buildings like they did way back then. It just stuns me how they found the material to build the buildings, the art to design the buildings and how they came up with such great architecture with little resources. Salt Lake City seems to use the basics of material and design without any thought about art in the inside or out, but only thought of the structure for the buildings.
